The Sum of Our Days is more or less a sequel to Isabel Allendes earlier memoir Paula which was written very shortly after her daugther Paula passed away.

This month we read Isabel Allendes The House of the Spirits first published in 1982 incredible to me since according to Wikipedia she only started writing the book on January 8 1981 Magda Bogin is the SpanishtoEnglish translator.

I was delighted when a copy of The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende wound up for grabs that night because its another magical realist book Ive been wanting to read for quite sometime. So she had me right back in her pocket in no time.

Now luckily for her she is ISABEL ALLENDE.

Isabel Allende Llona (born 2 August 1942) is a Chilean writer. Allende, whose works sometimes contain aspects of the “magic realist” tradition, is one of the best-known women writers in Latin America. She is largely well-known for novels such as The House of the Spirits (La casa de los espíritus) (1982) and City of the Beasts (La ciudad de las bestias) (2002), which have been commercially very successful. Allende has been described as “the world’s most widely read Spanish-language author.”

Her novels often focus on the experiences of women, are sometimes based in part on her own experiences, and weave myth and realism together. She has lectured and toured widely, and has taught literature at many American colleges. Having adopted American citizenship in 2003, she currently resides in California along with her husband. Isabel Allende is of Basque, Spanish and Portuguese descent.
